Biscom's Chairman, S.K. Ho Named 2012 All-Stars Technology Luminary
We were so pleased to learn that our founder and chairman, SK Ho was named as one of the 15 Technology Luminary Innovation All-Stars by Mass High Tech.
SK's story is a very interesting one -- at age 81, he is still a true pioneer in disruptive technologies and has contributed to the Analog Digital revolution at several companies.
SK spent 19 years at Wang Laboratories as the company grew from $16M to $3.5B. He designed and deployed a string of digital products which fueled Wang's growth. These included the Wang 500, 600, and 700 programmable calculators, digital plotters, small printers and tape readers, and designed and launched the Wang Professional Image Computer in 1984. It was then that SK first became interested in Fax technology.
In 1986, at age 56, SK left Wang with two engineers and founded Biscom to disrupt the fax machine market to improve the coordination of image communications at business enterprises. In 1987, Biscom launched the market's first-ever standalone fax server with a Fax Command Language (FCL) to interface with host-based applications, and used the Rockwell fax modem chipset to design a computer fax board to act as a fax machine. That year, Biscom's first customer, MCI Communications purchased 256 fax servers to handle their traffic. The computer fax server market was then created. Since then, Biscom has been awarded 6 patents with more pending.
Today, Biscom has over 5,000 enterprise fax customers at some of the largest Fortune 5-1000 firms, globally and holds the #1 marketshare position in Production fax for North America. Biscom's business today includes enterprise on-premises fax servers, hosted cloud-based fax, an exclusive Hybrid Fax Platform combining both, Digital Fax for color and high resolution IP-only applications, and the Secure File Transfer and Collaboration business.
SK is in the office most days still looking to disrupt current technologies and create new business models. He is an extravert, a joy to work with, and has the keen ability to earn followership from his people.
